Word of the Week - Mania

Mania. noun.
- An excessively intense enthusiasm, interest, or desire, as in the entire world being in too deep into this Word Cup mania.

During the World Cup season, they talk about the players, the results, and how they stayed up all night just to watch the match (I almost said 'show' here, football is just a SHOW).

After World Cup season, they talk about the players, the results, and how they no longer could stay up all night to watch the match.

An example of over-enthusiasm for football, would be my aunt.

Usually when she calls from London, and I pick up the phone, she'd speak to me for a bit, then ask to be handed over to my parents.
Two nights ago, she called from London, I picked up the phone, she asked for my dad (no talking to me, see), and they started talking about - what else, the World Cup.

It's crazy to call all the way from London, after WC season, just to talk about the WC and which players screwed up on the field.

If I were calling all the way from there, where every minute = $$$, I'd spend the minutes talking about something much more meaningful, like "how are you" and "what have you been up to" or "can I speak to the other family members?", and definitely NOT "did you watch the match between _ and _?". Pfft.

And with the coming of the WC season, people start showing all these different sides to them.

Like the doctor / physician.
"I think Sven-Goran Erikson has dementia. When they score goal, you see his response, so slow!" (CY's dad)

Like the (child) psychologist.
"Zidane shouldn't have head-butted that Italian guy. Temper control, very important! Hasn't he heard, 'rubber glue, back to you'?" (person from Catholic High)

Like the compulsive gambler.
"Oi! Want to bet or not? __ against __. Or you want __ against __?"
"You say should bet or not? Damn lot of money wei. Match that time sure heart attack one."
(people from CY's class)

Like the star-struck fan.
"Kaka so hot! Beckham so hot! Got see StarTwo? Ashley Cole so sexyy!" (girls all over)
And in Li-Ann's case, "Podolski will WIN!" Haha. =)

ALL my friends are watching it. Even the non-usual-football-watchers.

And then you hear of monks missing their morning rituals (or something), because they were up too late the night before, watching (what else) live World Cup matches.

"Excessively intense enthusiasm", for sure.

* * * * *

I was at Cineleisure Damansara on Sunday, and they were having this MYSO (Max Your Senses Out) thing going on.

I was fortunate (or unfortunate) enough to be there during the Super Pedas Red Hot Chili Peppers Band Search.

MPO (My Personal Opinion) - AWFUL.

It was baaaad. All of the bands there consisted of Malay rockers, you know the kind, dressed in black with dog chains here and there, trying to do the rocker look.

Which is weird, 'cause even the Peppers themselves don't do all-black attire and huge chains.

But that's not as big a deal as the sound (noise) they made.

You couldn't really hear what the singers were singing. All you hear are the voices, you almost cannot hear the words.

*gurgle gurgle gurgle*

(Sudden end, rude departure.)

WELCOME!

Sit back, put your feet up, and read whatever ramblings of Chooiyen.

Grab a cuppa while you're at it, too.
Because Chooiyen has got a lot to say!

Why do I have huge fonts?
It makes for an easier read, d'oh.

Apparently, huge fonts are ugly. *Shrugs
